If you are getting a new cat, one thing you will purchase on a regular basis is cat litter. There are many types on the market to choose from. One type you should consider is natural cat litter, which is also known as organic cat litter. There are many benefits to choosing this type, three of which are listed below.

It's Environmental

If you purchase clay cat litter, it can take a year or longer for it to decompose when you throw it away. This means if you take the cat litter to a landfill, it clogs up the landfill for many months. Natural cat filler is biodegradable, so it breaks down quickly when you change the litter. Natural cat litter is also much lighter than other types, and this reduces your carbon footprint.

Read the label on your natural cat litter, as many can be flushed down the toilet. This means you will not have to worry about throwing it away when you change the litter box. If you have cat litter left over that has not been used, you can use it for compost.

It's Better for Allergies

When you pour clay cat litter into a litter box, there is a lot of dust created. The person adding the cat litter to the box breathes in this dust. It can harm people that have respiratory problems. Also, every time your cat steps in the litter, they create dust as they scratch around on the litter. It is not good for your cat to breathe this in on a regular basis.

Natural cat litters generally do not have a smell as they are not perfumed in any way. Clay litters are fragrant in most cases, and this can also affect allergies and other respiratory problems.

It's Better for Your Cat

Not only does the dust from clay cat litter affect your cat, but other things can as well. With clay cat litter, your cat can get the small litter pellets stuck in their paws, which can be painful for them if the litter does not come out.  Most cats scratch at litter to cover up their feces and for other reasons.

Natural cat litter does not stick to your cat's paws as the litter is not made of a hard material. This also means your cat will not bring a lot of litter out of the box with them that will get on your flooring and cause a lot of mess.

You can find natural cat litter online and in many pet stores that sell cat litter.
